GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse senior Hannah Marafioti was selected as an NCAA Division III Preseason All-American by US Lacrosse Magazine just before the turn of the new year.
Marafioti was one of just 13 selections across all of NCAA Division III women's lacrosse and one of only four attackers to get the nod. An Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American in 2019, Marafioti scored 18 goals and tallied eight assists in the Knights' five games of the 2020 season before the campaign was halted, including a six-goal, four-assist effort in Geneseo's 17-11 victory over RIT (March 4). In her sophomore season, Marafioti set a single-season program record with 87 points, including 64 goals. With 161 career points, Marafioti ranks ninth in Geneseo history and is on pace to become just the sixth Knight to register 200 career points.
A native of Fairport, N.Y., Marafioti was named the 2019 SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Empire Region before earning All-America honors. She led the Knights to a 14-5 mark, including the team's first undefeated run through regular season conference play, a 9-0 mark that led the Knights to the top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. Geneseo defeated fourth-seed Oswego, 18-5, in the SUNYAC Semifinals but fell to Brockport in the conference finals.
Geneseo posted a 4-1 mark in 2020, including a four-game winning streak, before the season was halted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Knights return nine of their 12 starters for the 2021 campaign and will be in the hunt for the first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship in program history.
