Garcia-Cassani Named SUNYAC Athlete of the Decade As Eight Knights Earn SUNYAC All-Decade Team Honors

GENESEO, N.Y. - Former SUNY Geneseo standout Isaac Garcia-Cassani '18 was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, announced Tuesday. Garcia-Cassani leads eight Knights selected to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team while head coach Dan Moore '05 was named SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Decade.

The most-decorated student-athlete in Geneseo men's cross country history, Isaac Garcia-Cassani was named SUNYAC Athlete of the Decade. A three-time All-American, Garcia-Cassani posted three top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. He was a three-time SUNYAC champion, two-time Atlantic Regional champion, and earned SUNYAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2014.

COACH OF THE DECADE - DAN MOORE '05

Head Coach Dan Moore took over the men's and women's cross country programs in 2015 and has led the Knights to SUNYAC Championships in both men's and women's cross country every year since. An eight-time Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and eight-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year, Moore has coached the Geneseo men's cross country team to five-straight top-11 finishes at NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships. During his tenure, four men's cross country athletes have combined for six All-American honors. His teams' dominance in SUNYAC competition and excellence on the national stage earned him SUNYAC Coach of the Decade honors for both men's and women's cross country.

LEE BERUBE '12

A two-time All-American and three-time All-SUNYAC honoree, Lee Berube earned All-Decade honors. Berube qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of his four years and notched two top-10 finishes, taking eighth in 2010 and placing as national runner-up in 2011. Berube was a three-time SUNYAC Champion and three-time All-Atlantic Region selection as well.

ALEX BRIMSTEIN '13

Alex Brimstein ran just one year of cross country for the Knights, but made the most of it. He took first place in the 2012 SUNYAC Championships, first place in the Atlantic Regional and placed an All-American 10th at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships to lead the Knights.

LUKE HOLTZMAN '18

Luke Holtzman was named to the All-Decade Team after three seasons with the Knights. A three-time All-Atlantic Region selection, Holtzman was also a two-time All-SUNYAC finisher and capped his cross country career with a 26th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships, to earn All-American honors.

SEAN MCANENY '20

Sean McAneny earned All-Decade honors after four All-SUNYAC finishes, including SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in 2016 and a pair of first-place finishes at the SUNYAC Championships in 2018 and 2019. McAneny ran in three NCAA Championships, including a 24th place finish in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships to earn All-American honors.

EDDIE NOVARA '12

Eddie Novara split his collegiate career between Fredonia and Geneseo, running for the Knights in 2010 and 2011. After a pair of All-SUNYAC finishes with the Blue Devils, Novara earned two more All-SUNYAC selections as a Knight. He was a two-time All-American while at Geneseo, finishing 27th at the 2010 NCAA Championships and 25th the following year.

RYAN O'CONNOR '11

Ryan O'Connor competed in the early part of the decade for Geneseo. A two-time All-SUNYAC and two-time All-Atlantic Region finisher, O'Connor placed 10th in the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships to earn All-American honors.

MATTHEW SAYRE

The only active member of the SUNYAC All-Decade Team, Matthew Sayre finished the 2019 season with All-America honors after a 23rd place finish at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships. Sayre is a two-time All-SUNYAC selection, 2019 All-Atlantic Region finisher and could potentially return to the Knights for the 2021 season.
