Men's Cross Country Wins Fifth-Consecutive SUNYAC Championship

FREDONIA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Sean McAneny won the individual crown to pace the Knights to their fifth-consecutive team title at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, hosted by Fredonia. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • McAneny covered the muddy 8-kilometer course with a time of 28:28.2 for his second-straight top-10 finish after a ninth-place effort last year.
  • Junior Jack Tate finished runner-up (28:29.0) after an 11th-place showing a season ago.
  • Sophomore Bradley Farnham crossed third (28:46.9) to improve 35 spots over last season's 38th-place effort.
  • Senior Sean Welch finished fifth (29:11.9), improving 19 spots over last year's 24th-place showing.
  • First-year Riley Grossman ran to a sixth-place finish (29:16.9) to close the Knights' top-five.
  • Junior Justin Hoelzl placed 11th (29:27.3), up one spot from a 12th-place finish last year.
  • Sophomore Matt Sayre closed Geneseo's top-seven with a 13th-place finish in his first appearance in the race.

  • Geneseo won its 17th championship in the 56-year history of the race, three more than any other team in the league. 
  • The title was also the Knights' ninth in the last 10 seasons.
  • A Geneseo runner has now won the individual title in eight of the last 10 seasons.
  • Grossman was tabbed the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year as the highest first-year finisher, joining Farnham (2017) and McAneny (2016) as Geneseo's third-consecutive honoree. Isaac Garcia-Cassani '18 also won the award in 2014.
