Garcia-Cassani Named Men's Cross Country National Athlete Of The Week

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani was named the Division III Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), announced Monday.

Garcia-Cassani was honored for the third time in his career after besting a deep field at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic on Saturday. Running to the individual title for the second-straight year, he covered the eight-kilometer course in 25:50.2 to best the 324-runner field by 14 seconds. 

Garcia-Cassani led Geneseo, which entered the week ranked No. 2 in the nation, to its second team title in as many years. The Knights compiled 87 points to defeat No. 13 RPI (95 points), No. 12 Amherst (109), No. 19 Middlebury (117) and No. 4 Williams (136) in the top-five of the 26-team field.

Geneseo will host the 37th-Annual Mike Woods Invitational this Saturday (Sept. 30) at the Letchworth State Park Highbanks Recreation Area. The men's race is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women's race 12:00 p.m.
