GENESEO, N.Y. – Twelve members of the SUNY Geneseo track & field will travel to Illinois this week to compete at the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by North Central at the Al B. Carius Track.
Junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani is seeded second in the mile (4:08.53) and looks to improve upon back-to-back third place finishes the past two years. He will also join sophomores Luke Holtzman, Zachary Hannahoe and Gillan Faulkner on the Knights' second-ranked distance medley relay that returns to nationals after posting an All-America third-place showing last season.
Senior Alex Kramer will also make the trip to Naperville to compete in the 5,000, logging the seventh-fastest time (14:31.02) in Division III this season at the Tufts Final Qualifier last Saturday.
Senior Alexa Wandy leads the Geneseo women's contingent. Last year's triple jump runner-up is once again seeded second (40-4 1/4 - 12.30m) in the event and also ranked sixth in the long jump (19-1 1/4 - 5.82m).
Junior Camille Wutz, who posted an All-American sixth-place finish in the long jump last year, is seeded fourth (19-3 1/2 – 5.88m) this year and is also slated to compete in the 60 with the 12th-fastest mark (7.78) in Division III this season.
Senior Marissa Cossaro enters the meet with the 11th-fastest time in the 3,000, while sophomore Elise Ramirez is ranked eighth in the 5,000 (17:16.48). Ramirez will also add a leg to the sixth-ranked distance medley relay (11:55.68), along with sophomore Allison Fernandez, junior Lauren Bamford and senior Mackenzie Ross.
The Geneseo women enter the meet ranked fifth in the final USTFCCCA Division III national rankings heading into the meet, while the Knights' men moved up nine spots to 16th. The rankings are based on projected number of points scored at the national championship meet.
