Men's Soccer Holds Off Potsdam, 3-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomores Ariel Samoohy and James Perrone as well as first-year forward Aidan Rice each scored as the Knights defeated State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Potsdam, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

  • The Knights and Bears played to a scoreless first half. First-year back Luke Bloom nearly put the Knights ahead in the final seconds of the first half, but his bicycle kick attempt in the final seconds went ringing off the post.
  • Perrone scored just 2:35 into the second half, finishing a rebound from the six-yard line to put the Knights ahead, 1-0. Rice scored his first collegiate goal less than 10 minutes later, flicking in a header out of a scramble in front of the Potsdam net and putting the Knights ahead, 2-0.
  • In the 75th minute, Geneseo had a player sent off and played the final 15 minutes down a man. Potsdam scored moments later, finishing a scramble off of a set piece and cutting the lead to one goal, 2-1.
  • In the 80th minute, Samoohy received a long ball out of the back from senior back Caleb Murthy and beat on the defender on the right side before slotting the ball inside the far post to put Geneseo ahead, 3-1.

  • Rice became the sixth goal scorer on the season for the Knights, while Perrone tied the team lead with his third of the season.
  • First-year goalkeeper Will Price made two saves in the win.
  • The Knights outshot the Bears, 21-8, and earned six corner kicks while holding Potsdam to just three.
