NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard Quinn Carey netted 16 points while senior guard Kevin Crockett added 15, but the Knights fell to the host Hawks, 73-60, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) battle on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Carey netted eight of the Knights' 13 points as Geneseo (3-3, 1-1 SUNYAC) jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first 3:22, but New Paltz gained control with a 18-0 run to make it 25-13 with 8:50 to go in the first half.
Geneseo finished the half on a 19-8 run to cut the deficit to 33-32 before the halftime break.
The Knights remained within one point through the first four minutes of the second half, but New Paltz pulled away with a 9-0 run to make it 49-39 with 14:06 to go.
A layup by first-year Alex Merhige cut the lead to four point, 52-48, with 10:21 remaining, but that was as close as Geneseo would draw as New Paltz ended the contest on a 21-12 run to earn the victory.
Sophomore forward Tommy Eastman netted nine points, pulled eight rebounds, dished off four assists and recorded three steals.
The Knights committed just 10 turnovers while forcing 18 New Paltz turnovers.
The loss is Geneseo's first against New Paltz since the 2014-15 season. The Knights own a 42-18 record all-time against the Hawks.
Geneseo will host local rival Rochester on Tuesday, Dec. 5 with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
