Athletic Trainers are health care professionals recognized by the American Medical Association who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of a variety of injuries and medical conditions. The sports medicine staff is comprised of certified athletic trainers, physicians, orthopedic physicians and physician assistants.
Here at the State University of New York at Geneseo, the philosophy of treatment advocated by the Sports Medicine Department is to return a student-athlete to competition without endangering the student-athlete's physical health, mental and emotional well-being. Delivery of the highest quality health care is conducted through a proactive, interdisciplinary team approach which includes education, injury prevention, assessment, diagnosis, short- and long-term management goals, and functional rehabilitation techniques.
All Athletic Training staff members are certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Board of Certification Inc., Licensed by New York State and are members of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association and the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association.
