About Us

SUNY Geneseo is known both for its stellar academic programs and its prestigious athletic programs as well. The Knights have won six-consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Commissioner's Cups, finished within the top-20 in the Learfield Sports/NACDA Director's Cup standings each of the last five years, including an all-time best 11th-place finish in 2018, and have won a total of 40 SUNYAC Championships in the last four years combined. 

in 2020, 19 Geneseo student-athletes combined for a total of 21 All-America awards, despite the winter and spring seasons being shortened due to COVID-19. Genny Corcoran '20 finished as national runner-up in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship to earn her third career All-America honor. Matt Sayre '21 and Luke Holtzman '20 each turned in All-America finishes at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships, leading the team to an eighth-place finish. Julia Kim '20 was named to the Longstreth/NFHCA All-America team while leading the Knights to a program-best 19-2 campaign, a SUNYAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. Grace Cergol '20 became the first Geneseo volleyball player to ever earn multiple All-America awards, returning from a season-ending injury a year prior to earn AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. 

Conlan Keenan '20 and Andrew Romano '20 were each named USCHO and AHCA First Team All-Americans as they led the Knights to a third-consecutive SUNYAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Corey Wirth '22, Samantha Reichman '20, Kiersten Coates '21, Alyssa Vadala '21 and Jenna MacLeod '23 were each named CSCAA All-American divers. Maddie Knight '21, Kelly Lennon '21, Deidra Osula '21, Celeste Pace '21, Lauren Siegel '21, Noelle Staso '21 and Paige Turcotte '21 each earned CSCAA All-America honors as well. 

Keenan finished as the Sid Watson Award (Division III Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Year) runner-up while men's ice hockey head coach Chris Schultz '97 was tabbed the Ed Jeremiah Award (Division III Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year) runner-up. Schultz, along with assistant coaches Kris Heeres '06 and Dan Loughran '86, earned SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff of the Year while The Knights' Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field coaching staff, led by head coach Chris Popovici '06, earned SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year on both the men's and women's side. Paul Dotterweich, Shawn Austin, Emily Smith '17, Kyle Barry '19 and Casey Mehlenbacher were named SUNYAC Women's Swimming & Diving Coaching Staff of the Year while Austin earned SUNYAC Diving Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's team. 

 

The women’s swimming & diving team brought home its 13th-straight and 28th overall SUNYAC Championship, while the men’s program earned its 27th total title and 21st in the last 22 seasons.

The women’s cross country ran to its 19th SUNYAC title in the last 20 years before qualifying for its 21st-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance. The men also competed in the NCAA Championship race for the 17th year in a row as Geneseo extended the nation’s longest streak of both cross country teams competing at the NCAA Championships.

The men's and women's track and field teams earned SUNYAC titles in the indoor season, marking the first time in conference history the same team has won the SUNYAC men's and women's indoor track & field championships for four-consecutive seasons. 

Field hockey earned its first SUNYAC Championship since 2010, finishing the season with a 19-2 mark, including a 16-game winning streak. The Knights set a program record with 19 wins and advanced to the NCAA round of 16 for the first time in program history. Head coach Margaret McConnell and assistant coaches Marissa Kocher, Meg Reitz and Megan Caveny were named Spiideo/NFHCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year while McConnell earned SUNYAC Coach of the Year as well. 

Head coach Chris Schultz '97 led the Knights to its third-consecutive SUNYAC Championship, guiding the Knights to a 22-3-2 record. Geneseo rolled through the SUNYAC with a 13-1-2 record against conference opponents and defeated Oswego, 4-1, in the SUNYAC Championship to repeat as three-time conference champions. Andrew Romano '20 led the nation in scoring (56 points) and assists (42) for the second-straight season while Conlan Keenan '20 finished his career as the NCAA Division III active leader in career points (172) and career goals (86). Geneseo was poised to advance to its fourth Frozen Four in the past seven seasons.

 

INTRAMURAL ATHLETICS
For the recreational athlete, the college provides 27 intramural sport offerings including 16 leagues and 11 single-day tournaments, along with recreational hours in the gymnasiums, swimming pool, ice arena, a jogging track and numerous intramural fields.
