GENESEO, N.Y. - On a sunny, unseasonably warm Sunday morning, over 300 SUNY Geneseo student-athletes armed with rakes and tarps were dispersed throughout the Village of Geneseo, helping to rake leaves and manicure the yards of senior-citizens in the community.
Led by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), student-athletes helped to clear over 40 yards of fallen leaves and debris in an effort to give back to the community that supports them. Student-athletes braved the cold and rain as each team took a different section of the village.
"This event is a great opportunity for the community and the student-athletes to get connected," said Geneseo SAAC President and women's volleyball senior Gabby Ayzenberg. "This year especially, it is important to do what we can to make someone's day better. As student-athletes we get to give back to those who support us and our teams. We're glad to be able to help out in any way we can."
"We expect our student-athletes to be well-rounded individuals dedicated to being at their best in the classroom, on the field and in the community," said Knights' Director of Intercollege Athletics and Recreation Mike Mooney. "Our annual leaf raking event is one of the many opportunities for our student-athletes to give back to the community during their time here at Geneseo."
