Knights Claim Four PrestoSports Athlete of the Week Honors

GENESEO, N.Y. - Four SUNY Geneseo student-athletes garnered PrestoSports Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) on Monday afternoon. Women's cross country senior Genny Corcoran was named Runner of the Week while women's soccer sophomore forward Hannah Sullivan was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week and field hockey juniors Haley Clark and Jordan Penkitis swept weekly honors. 
Corcoran finished first out of 328 runners to lead the Knights to fifth place out of 42 teams in the Women's College Brown section at the Lehigh Paul Short Run, Saturday. In a field comprised of Division I, II and III competition, Corcoran covered the six-kilometer course with a winning time of 20:42.6 to best the field by more than 19 seconds. Division I Stony Brook won the team competition with 127 points, followed by Columbia (176), Dickinson (204), Buffalo (205) and Geneseo (219) in the top-five.
Sullivan tallied eight points in two games as she propelled the Knights to a pair of conference victories. Against Plattsburgh on Friday, Sullivan scored an insurance goal in the second half as Geneseo secured the 2-0 victory. Against Potsdam, Sullivan recorded her third multi-goal game of the season and added two assists to tie a career-high with six points as the Knights rolled, 5-0. Sullivan leads the conference with eight goals and 21 points, including three goals and two assists in four SUNYAC contests.
Clark led the Knights to a pair of victories last week, including a 2-0 road shutout of Cortland in SUNYAC action, Saturday. Clark totaled a goal and three assists in Wednesday's 5-1 victory at Houghton before scoring a goal in Saturday's decision as Geneseo won its seventh-straight game as well as for the ninth time in its last 10 outings.
Penkitis anchored the Geneseo defense in two victories last week. She scored a goal in Wednesday's 5-1 win at Houghton in which the Knights' defense held the Highlanders to eight shots and only four on goal. Penkitis assisted both goals in Geneseo's 2-0 shutout at Cortland as Geneseo won its seventh-straight game as well as for the ninth time in its last 10 outings.
