GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Sean McAneny was voted a first-team member of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America Men's Track & Field/Cross Country team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). McAneny is only the ninth Academic All-American in Geneseo history and the third from the track & field/cross country program.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average in at least their sophomore season and be a starter or key reserve on their respective team. McAneny landed First-Team Academic All-District selection earlier this month and moved on to the national ballot with the first-team honorees from the eight districts across the country.
McAneny punctuated his junior campaign with a 13th-place finish in the 1,500 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships after winning the SUNYAC Championship in the event two weeks earlier.
An English major with a 3.94 grade point average, McAneny finished an All-American fifth in the 3,000 at the NCAA Indoor Championships after crossing an All-American 24th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Also tabbed the 2019 SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Runner of the Year and the 2018 SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, McAneny swept all three SUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards in Men's Cross Country, Men's Indoor Track & Field and Men's Outdoor Track & Field during the academic year.
